Kigali, March 14, 2013.

Mr. Gratian Nsabiyaremye, member of the Interim Executive Committee of FDU-Inkingi in charge of the youth, was arrested and put in jail on March 3, 2013, on grounds of rebellion and undermining the security of the State following his refusal to open his door to heavily armed soldiers of the Rwandan army navy stationed in Rubavu District who had surrounded his residential home that night. This was the second time that these soldiers had attacked his home because in January 2012, Gratien Nsabiyaremye had been once again attacked by members of this same Rwandan army navy and had on this occasion been savagely beaten simply because he belongs to opposition party FDU-Inkingi.

The party FDU-Inkingi seizes this opportunity to thank all of you who helped in sending SOS messages for this innocent victim and in denouncing these shameful acts aimed at stifling individual liberties and are surprisingly committed by those people who are supposed to protect citizen’s rights.

These acts of harassment and intimidation by the regime against members of the democratic opposition are taking alarming proportions. These acts have led to the imprisonment of Victoire Ingabire Umuhoza, Chairperson of FDU-Inkingi, Bernard Ntaganda, Founding-President of PS-Imberakuri, Deogratias Mushayidi, Chairperson of PDP-Imanzi, Theonest Niyitegeka and several other members of the democratic opposition that are languishing in several prisons across the country simply because they are members of the opposition against the RPF regime.

The party FDU-Inkingi calls upon the RPF regime to release all of these political prisoners and reinstate their civil rights granted by the law so that they can contribute ideas aimed at building our country.

FDU-Inkingi

Boniface Twagirimana

Interim Vice President
