OPEN LETTER TO THE MANAGERS OF THE BBC

Director General

CC: Emma Swain
Controller – Factual Commissioning

Brussels, October 11th, 2014

Member associations of the Rwandan Civil Society in Belgium congratulates you for the broadcast on BBC TWO of the documentary film “Rwanda’s Untold Story” on Wednesday October 1st, 2014. We were pleasantly surprised that the documentary addressed without detour the responsibility of the current authorities in the events which have plunged Rwanda into chaos from October 1st, 1990.

The reactions of the Rwandan authorities through the associations IBUKA, AVEGA, AERG and GAERG should neither intimidate nor deter you. They are known for exclusion policies and discrimination that they exert on the victims of the RPF and they are also known to be the official channel of the propaganda of the current regime. Their letter addressed to you should neither surprise nor distract you.

For our part, we are convinced that the documentary “Rwanda’s Untold Story” is a very valuable contribution to the tragic history of Rwanda, which has always been the subject of numerous falsifications orchestrated by the regime of the Rwandan President Paul Kagame.

We ask that you do not give in to the moves of the regime of Paul Kagame who shamefully has tried to scare you but rather to continue this journalistic momentum which will definitively lift the veil on what really happened in Rwanda and which will allow an entire people to reconcile with its tragic past.

This letter from us is therefore intended to encourage the continuation of these investigations while continuing to interview many survivors, witnesses of massacres and victims of serious and massive violations of human rights committed in Rwanda and in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) since 1990 until today.

We urge you to resist the pressure and continue your honest information mission.

Best regards,

For the Rwandan Civil Society in Belgium,

JOSEPH MATATA, Coordinator of the CLIIR
