GENERAL PAUL KAGAME BETRAYS ONCE MORE HIS OATH TO BE THE GUARDIAN OF THE CONSTITUTION

PRESS RELEASE 007/2017

GENERAL PAUL KAGAME BETRAYS ONCE MORE HIS OATH TO BE THE GUARDIAN OF THE CONSTITUTION

Pursuant to Article 102 of the current Constitution as published on 24/12/2015, President Kagame has once again made a false oath on August 18, 2017 by pretending to be the guardian of the Constitution, laws and institutions of the Republic of Rwanda.

On the 18th December 2015, Rwandans were forced into the referendum to approve the Rwandan Constitution reform tailored to fit the whims of the RPF Party-State . This was done while ignoring the provision of article 101 which clearly stipulates that:“Under no circumstances shall a person hold the office of President of Republic for more than two (2) terms”. After dismissing all opponents likely to overshadow shadow him, President Kagame was elected on 3-4 August 2017 with a score of 99% which he had already announced in Ruhango at the beginning of his campaign.

The Political Platform of opposition to the dictatorial regime in Rwanda (P5), composed of 5 main political organizations (Amahoro PC, FDU-Inkingi, PDP-Imanzi, PS Imberakuri and RNC), once again denounces this constitutional coup which has deprived the Rwandan people of their legitimate right to elect their leader in a free and transparent manner.

The platform P5 has tried everything, but in vain, to bring about democratic and peaceful change. It calls on the international community to bear witness to this violation of the citizens’ rights and come out of its complicit silence.

The oath of General Paul Kagame should be considered as a commitment to continue the multiple human rights violations denounced by several credible and trustworthy bodies. We pledge to fight against the state sponsored terrorism, tyranny and oppression established in Rwanda by the RPF. And since, as President JF Kennedy said, “Those who make peaceful revolutions impossible make violent revolutions inevitable”, the P5 Platform undertakes to use all legitimate means to bring power back to the Rwandan people.

The P5 platform calls on the Rwandan people to pool together their efforts to end the dictatorship of General Paul Kagame.
