Kagame Regime Finally Breaks Silence On The Panama Papers :Two Days After Being Exposed

By David Himbara

After two days of silence on the Panama Papers, the Kagame regime finally responded to the expose. On April 6, 2016, Finance Minister Claver Gatete issued a three-sentence statement on the offshore investment made by a military spokesman and Kagame’s confidante, Emmanuel Ndahiro.

Debben Investment Ltd, the minister claimed, was a special vehicle “to secure strategic services.” It was used “in all transparency, and no private interest, illegal transactions or tax avoidance were involved in any form.”

Will the Rwandan media gather a nerve to probe this issue, now that the regime has issued a statement on the matter? Don’t bet on it.
