RNC strongly condemns the retaliatory decision of the Rwandan Government to suspend BBC programs airing in Rwanda

           FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Rwanda National Congress strongly condemns the retaliatory decision of the Rwandan Government to suspend British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) programs airing in Rwanda because of the documentary film that aired on BBC entitled: “Rwanda-The Untold Story”. The government specifically, in its press release signed by RURA (Rwanda Utility Regulatory Authority) dated 10/24/2014, targeted the Kinyarwanda version of the BBC radio. It should be noted that the “Rwanda-Untold Story” was a television program and did not air on the Kinyarwanda Radio.

The suspension of the BBC programs in Rwanda is another manifestation of the government of Rwanda practices towards media freedom. It is an open secret that President Kagame and his government does not tolerate critics, whether by media, governments, or other independent organizations which is inconsistent with African Union, United Nations, and Commonwealth Countries values, of which Rwanda is a member state.

Rwanda National Congress calls on the International Community to ask President Kagame to refrain from media oppression immediately. The international Community knows that President Kagame’s government cannot operate without International aids.

Rwanda National Congress remains committed to advocating for rights of the people of Rwanda, until they are free from oppression.
