Rwanda: Aggression of a VOA journalist by a security officer

Kigali-  Eric Bagiruwubusa, a VOA journalist was attacked by a DASSO security officer in Kigali. As the journalist was covering street vendors. The cell phone of the VOA journalist was destroyed in the aggression. 

The incident took place at Nyabugogo near the taxi park. At the same place few weeks ago, a security officer  in Kigali city has beaten to death Uwamahoro Theodosie, a street vendor.

Hawkers and vendors have been evicted from the streets of Nyabugogo in a clean-up exercise. Nyabugogo is one of Kigali’s low-class and busiest suburbs.

DASSO  (District Administration Security Service Organ) is a district organ that was mandated to support law enforcement in local governments. DASSO  security officer are often accused of using excessive force, and violence by the population.
