Rwanda:Boniface Twagirimana, First Vice President of FDU Inkingi arrested

This Friday morning December 4, 2015, the Rwandan police arrested Mr. Boniface Twagirimana, First Vice President of FDU Inkingi, without meeting the legal requirement of showing an arrest warrant.

While we are waiting for a full brief on the reasons of his arrest, available information indicates that he is accused of having expressed to Radio Voice of America (VOA), his disapproval of the way that the country is governed by the RPF and denounced the ongoing manipulation of the Constitution by the Rwanda regime to allow President Paul Kagame to seek a third term in office contrary to article 101 of the current Constitution.

We learnt the he was detained first at Remera Police Station, but now he was transferred to another secret location.

FDU Inkingi condemn once again the continued violation of the right of expression in Rwanda.

This arrest is part of repressive machinery to crackdown any dissenting voice and to intimidate the Rwandan population into submission to the process of constitutional coup that needs to be endorsed by the population through a referendum

Done in London, December 4, 2015.

Commissionner for External Relations and Spokesperson of s FDU-Inkingi
