I am asking for a special Xmas gift. Somebody please save Nyabarongo river. Nyabarongo is dying. It is heavily polluted by land degradation, sand mining, and raw sewage from the City of Kigali via River Nyabugogo. As we all know, Nyabugogo receives Kigali’s untreated wastewaters, raw human sewage, abattoir discharges, and industrial waste. All this is then dumped into RIver Nyabarongo.
The time the two rivers meet, therefore , Nyabarongo is already heavily polluted from land degradation and sand mining. Nyabarongo River wetland is of great importance not only for Rwanda – it is a tributary of River Nile. Millions of Rwandans depend on the waters of Nyabarongo. To lose this water system to sand mining, sewage, industrial effluents, and land degradation to the current extent is madness.
River Nyabarongo is a lifeline to millions. Who will save River Nyabarongo?
