There is no credible or independent news organization with a sizable staffing left in Rwanda. The Nation Media Group (NMG) has closed shop in Rwanda.
The bearer of this bad news is @ChimpReports.com in its article “NMG Lays off Staff in Rwanda.”
According to this report, NMG which publishes Rwanda Today and the East African newspaper, has laid off its Rwandan staff.
The main reason cited for the closure is “business challenges” in Rwanda. ChimpReports says that NMG “is retaining only two staff reporters and a few freelancers.
The subsidiary had over 30 staff when it opened for business a few years ago.” As the Washington Post slogan goes, “Democracy Dies in Darkness” — and so it is in Rwanda.
The NMG is also a disaster in terms of employment. Thirty journalists and staff just lost their jobs.
