I admire some intelligence more than others. The one displayed in the cartoon is so compelling that it would be unfair not to highlight it.
During the recently ended so called national dialogue where president Kagame brought together thousands of compatriots from all over the world to come and praise him for his achievements, one of the central themes was the accusation against the Catholic Church for its eventual role in the Rwandan genocide.
While the Catholic Church as an institution is resisting such accusation, president Kagame wants it instead to pay reparations to the genocide survivors. But his ultimate strategy is to dispossess the Church of all its possessions in Rwanda, as he has done so far with the Hutu community that he accuses collectively of genocide.
About the Catholic Church, what we know very well instead is that RPF, on president Kagame’s orders himself, decapitated the institution, killed tens of priests and nuns. We also know that he attempted several times to assassinate his former military chief of staff Kayumba Nyamwasa.
What is so clever about the cartoon is that for crimes that facts attest that they were committed by president Kagame: Rwandan genocide, decapitating the Catholic Church, attempting on the life of Nyamwasa, the Pope is coming to president Kagame to ask for forgiveness.
Such practice was apparently common under the Tutsi monarchy before the 60s in Rwanda, where the ruling authorities would impose to its victims to come and praise their reign knowing well the latter had killed their families or people.
