According to several corroborating sources, this Monday, September 13, 2021, the Rwandan political opponent Dr Christopher Kayumba was hospitalized in emergency.

Dr Christopher Kayumba’s lawyer confirmed this information to the Kinyarwanda section of the BBC. According to him his client was hospitalized in emergency at the Gasabo District Hospital (former Police Hospital located in Kacyiru)

Rwandese Platform for Democracy (RPD), the party founded by Dr Kayumba announced the hospitalization of its leader on its twitter account.

Dr Christopher Kayumba had started a hunger strike after his arrest last Thursday by the Rwandan office of investigation (RIB). He was accused of rape and attempted rape. These allegations date back to 2017.

According to Dr Kayumba, these accusations are false and politically motivated because he was initially accused on social media by people close to the regime just a few hours after the announcement of the creation of his political party.
