Kagame Loses A Protector At The World Bank — Jim Yong Kim Quits As President

By David Himbara

For some unknown and unfathomable reasons, these two men appeared to be in love. The World Bank President Jim Yong Kim simply adored General Paul Kagame.

Even when the World Bank’s research on Rwanda showed poor performance, Jim Yong Kim stood by his man. Notice the irony in the World Bank’s latest statement on economic risks facing Rwanda: ”Continued weak private sector response to the improved investment climate remains a key risk.”

This, after the World Bank ranked Rwanda ahead of such countries as Switzerland, Netherlands, Belgium and Japan in the ease of doing business indicators. The World Bank’s flattery of Rwanda is about to dry, however.

The protector is gone. Jim has resigned more than three years ahead of the expiration of his term in 2022.

Paul will miss Jim.
