Kagame’s govt claims that it attracted US$2.4 billion of foreign investments in 2019. This is more than US$2.2 billion foreign investment Rwanda received from 2000 to 2018.

Kagame and Rwanda Development Board’s boss Clare Akamanzi

General Paul Kagame’s government is a serial liar. Case in point is its latest statement on foreign investments in Rwanda. According to Rwanda Development Board (RDB), Rwanda attracted US$2.4 billion of foreign investment in 2019, up from US$2.1 billion in 2018 – a 22.6 percent increase. In reality, foreign investment inflows to Rwanda between 2013 and 2018 were as follows:

  • 2018 – US$398 million;
  • 2017 – US$356 million;
  • 2016 – US$342 million;
  • 2015 – US$380 million;
  • 2014 – US$459 million;
  • 2013 – US$258 million.

In eighteen years between 2000 and 2018, the total amount of foreign investment in Rwanda stands at US$2.2 billion. In other words, the amount of foreign investment that RDB is claiming for 2019 is more than foreign investment Rwanda received in eighteen years. These people are shameless.
