PRESS RELEASE ON BBC GAHUZAMIRYANGO INDEFINITE SUSPENSION IN RWANDA

Rwanda National Congress condemns the decision of the Rwandan Government to suspend indefinitely BBC Kinyarwanda broadcast in Rwanda.

The decision was triggered by a documentary “Rwanda the Untold Story” that aired on BBC English television programs.

The documentary angered the government of Rwanda after it questioned whether President Kagame had played a role during the 1994 Rwandan genocide.

It should be noted that, the documentary aired on BBC television but the Government of Rwanda suspended a BBC Kinyarwanda program that had nothing to do with the documentary.

Rwanda National Congress believes that the government move to suspend BBC Kinyarwanda is nothing but media censorship.

The suspension of BBC Kinyarwanda came at crucial times when President Kagame is attempting to tamper with the constitution, to allow him to run for a third term, which is prohibited by article 101 of Rwandan Constitution.

Rwanda National Congress reminds the people of Rwanda, the Government of Rwanda and the International Community, that it will continue to fight for Rwanda people’s rights until Rwanda is free from dictatorship.
