RWANDA NATIONAL CONGRESS DENOUNCES RWANDA’s LEGISLATOR DECISION TO AMEND THE CONSTITUTION TO REMOVE PRESIDENTIAL TERM LIMITS

Today, Rwanda’s lawmakers of both houses have anonymously voted to amend the Constitution, to allow a removal of constitutional Presidential term limits.

Though we knew all along that Rwanda was governed by a dictator, we underestimated the extent of his influence on the legislature.

Rwanda National Congress strongly condemns this unconstitutional act by Rwanda’s legislature, taken to allow President Kagame who has been in power for over sixteen years, to become a life President.

Rwanda National Congress reminds Rwanda’s legislature that this historic vote, will remain on their records forever as a vote that sunk Rwanda into misery and possibly chaos.

The legislature has taken an unconstitutional act to protect the President and shield him from his criminal acts, and ignored the very people who need protection the most, the Rwandan People.

Rwanda National Congress reminds Rwandans, the government of Rwanda and the International Community that it will continue to fight for Rwanda People’s right until Rwandans are free from the dictatorship and oppression.

Rwanda National Congress takes this opportunity to ask the International Community to reevaluate its relationship with the government of Rwanda, condemn this act which is a violation of the social contract between the Government of Rwanda and its people.
