Kigali, 20 September 2012

From 15 September 2012, the police in Rutsiro District arrested and kept incommunicado 8 members of FDU-Inkingi in the area. The arrested people are: Mutuyimana Anselme, Uwiringiyimana venuste, Ufitamahoro Norbert, Dukundane Moise, Twizerimana Valens, Nahimana Marcel, Byukusenge Emmanuel and Gasengayire Leonille. They are accused of threats to national security; endangering public order and illegal political activities.

Lawyer Felicien Bimenyimana, hired by FDU-Inkingi to represent the victims of this political persecution, was intimidated. He decided to drop the case for his own security. This happened today when he went to Karongi police station where the arrestees have been transferred for prosecution. He stopped after introductions with only three of them. The Bwishyura police commander who rushed there, threatened him, asking why he has chosen the side of the enemy.

Nobody has yet seen the arrest warrants and their family members have not been allowed neither to see them nor to bring them food.

The suspects have never been produced in front of a judge according to the Rwandan criminal procedure law.
